In a recent study, Bethany Gull and Claudia Geist identify two paths leading to men's increased housework — one non-religious and egalitarian the other religious and family-centred

Their results surprised them, as they had expected conservative religious men to have lower housework participation due to their traditional gender ideologies.

Laurie deRose and Anna Barren suggest there are two basic reasons people assume religious men refrain from household chores: the first is a caricature of religious men as misogynistic, narcissistic, and controlling; the second is that many people understand that egalitarianism places high expectations on husbands and fathers, without recognizing that faith does likewise. In a social experiment, YouTuber Yousef Saleh Erakat posed as a homeless man and tried to give out money to passers-by.

The reactions to his generosity in this five-minute video are shockingly negative.

One man in a suit and talking on a cell phone is offered money by the actor.

He responds aggressively, swearing at Erakat, and saying:"I could... buy you."

The stranger throws the bill back at him.

Erakat says that in society it's acceptable to give money to the homeless, but he questions whether it's only acceptable because one individual thinks they are better than the other person. Continue reading

To coincide with World AIDS Day, the Vatican has appealed for universal access to HIV/AIDS treatments.

The statement from the Pontifical Council for Healthcare Workers says says World AIDS Day is a privileged moment to relaunch the fight against social prejudice and that World AIDS Day is a new opportunity to

  • promote universal access to therapies for those who are infected,
  • prevent the transmission of AIDS from mother to child,
  • educate people in appropriate lifestyle choice that is truly correct and responsible as regards sexuality.

An estimated 1,800,000 people still die every year because of HIV/AIDS, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Vatican says deaths from AIDS are no longer justified; particularly the deaths of young children who have caught the disease from their mothers.

"These are people who could lead normal lives if they only had access to suitable pharmacological therapies, those known as antiretroviral therapies," the statement reads.

The Vatican expressed its appreciation to all those healthcare workers who are exposed to the risk of infection.
