Visitors should be able to visit Notre Dame by the end of 2024, but for eager pilgrims and tourists who can't wait LEGO has added a set of Notre Dame de Paris to its collection of world-famous monuments, which includes the Taj Mahal and the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Boasting unique features, the Notre Dame set stands out as one of the most ambitious and exclusive additions to the LEGO Architecture series, is sure to captivate LEGO enthusiasts and collectors alike.

The LEGO Architecture series has a long history of keeping things small. Only three sets so far have more than 2000 pieces, and none have more than 3000 pieces. The Notre Dame de Paris set contains about 4383 pieces.

One of the more interesting things about the LEGO Notre Dame Cathedral is that it breaks the company's rule of avoiding any kind of religious affiliation. You could argue that the cathedral is far more of an iconic landmark than just a church, but it still poses an interesting question of what could also be on the table now that LEGO is letting a model like this through the cracks. Among the grand designs on show in Palmerston North this week are two iconic Catholic buildings - made of Lego.

The Wellington Lego User Group brought 120 exhibitors together from Auckland to Invercargill to showcase their plastic artistry at Palmerston North's Central Energy Trust Arena from Friday to Sunday.

An impressive replica of the Convent of the Sacred Heart and former Erskine College building has been a focal point of Brickcon, taking out best in the show of the weekend's exhibits.

Painstakingly built to represent the historical accuracy of the building in Island Bay, Wellington - which has since been converted into apartments - Frank Averes has stacked more than 250,000 bricks over nearly a year to bring the miniature version to life. Read more

For more than 10 painstaking months, Father Bob Simon of St. Catherine of Siena in Moscow created a replica of the Vatican out of roughly 500,000 Lego pieces.

The work is now on display at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, which happens to be running two overlapping exhibits on Lego art and Vatican art and artifacts.

"I was a kid who always loved Legos, as long as I could remember," said the Rev. Simon, 50, a Plains Twp. native. "And I always wanted to be a priest, so it was a natural thing to build churches." Continue reading

A Polish priest, Father Slawomir Kostrzewa, is citing a study from New Zealand in a dire warning that Lego's new line of Monster Fighters and Zombies figures are tools of Satan that can destroy their children's souls.

Kostrzewa says the Danish toy company had taken a lurch to the dark side with its series of Monster Fighters and Zombie mini-figures, and that they "were about darkness and the world of death"

The New Zealand study by Christopher Barneck of University of Canterbury has found the number of happy faces on Legos is decreasing, and more angry faces are taking their place.

Barneck studied all the 6000 Lego figures including Harry Potter and pirate-themed toys, and says they are increasingly angry and based on conflict - with potentially harmful effects on children's play and development.

Kostrzewa's attack on Lego is not the first time he has accused toys of harbouring evil. Hello Kitty and My Little Pony have also come under his scrutiny, with the latter being described as a "carrier of death".
