St. Stephen of Hungary Parish, at Fifth and Union streets in New York city makes unusual old-world-style pizzas from scratch every Friday.
The congregation has also decided to remember its roots with bi-monthly sales of old-fashioned, hand-stretched Hungarian strudel.
“It’s our way of reaching out to the community, too, and reminding them we’re here. As one of our parishioners observed, ‘Ya gotta eat. Ya gotta pray.’ We’ll help our customers with either need or both,” Seifert says.
